Hello all,
My name is Dillon Cook, and this is my new blog. I am a philosopher, and a theologian in the making. I teach Philosophy at the collegiate-level, and also teach a Phil. Logic/Debate Club in secondary education. I’m open to teaching Theology or Religion somewhere, I just haven’t crossed that bridge yet (beyond tutoring Catechism for high-schoolers or something like that). I’ll be using this space to discuss/share only things of grandeur. I’m kidding.
On the other hand, I will be sharing my thoughts on philosophical or theological topics that concern social issues, psychology, science, etc. and so forth, and will be placing some of my research on here for the purposes of: storage, and also for having points of reference concerning specific content covered… for myself, but also for my philosophy students. Apparently, there are “mixed reviews” concerning the use of a blog for Academia/Academic purposes—as I was recently getting ‘the low-down’ from one of my dear professors on whether it would be a useful tool or not to aid oneself in the survival-of-the-fittest job market that is Academia. I decided after speaking with my beloved professor, that I’d take a chance because I don’t intend this on replacing actual publishing. It is my hope that viewers will find these blogs helpful, encouraging, interesting, and/or thought provoking. It is also my hope that this blog site will provide blueprints for actual academic publications. I have no doubt that the latter will be true, I have some doubts about the former (i.e. people finding this “interesting” etc. and so forth) considering blog posts typically reach a wider audience than say academic publications. And if many do not find the things that I write interesting, that’s fine too. Thanks in advance for reading the only or few things that you will read. Formerly, I had all my stored academic writings on another site. It began to get a little spammy. So, it looks like I’ll be making the transition over here.
